A special event is about to commence at the Regent Cinema in Dannevirke and will kick off with a screening of the story of how one New Zealander could amass the largest private collection worldwide of mainline steam locomotives.
He now has around 27 of them in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa with many of them having run or still able to and has been up through the Tararua on many occasions on the way to either Napier or Gisborne.
Ian Welch, the man in question, will be in Dannevirke on Saturday evening the 6th August and his appearance and film will be the start of the "CANS FILM FESTIVAL" that will run until the following Sunday.
The price of admission will be one can of food in good condition for everyone attending and the cans will be donated to the two food banks in Dannevirke.
This will apply to one movie each day.
