Come along and learn how to make your own string or rope with Diana Duncan in a workshop held at our Matatiki Toi Ora Arts Centre workshop, which is located upstairs in the former Boys’ High building at 28 Worcester Boulevard.
This workshop is suitable for children aged 10 and over without supervision. Children aged 8 - 9 will require an adult with them.
This workshop is free/low-cost for Community Service Card holders, though donations are appreciated. The standard workshop price of $10 applies for those without cards. Please select the appropriate option at the bottom of the page.
Vaccine passes and face masks are required for this workshop for attendees over the age of 12. More details about our COVID 19 protocols can be found HERE
This workshop will give you a resourceful skill that you'll be able to use in so many ways for the rest of your life!
This technique for making string and rope is simple and can be used with many different materials. We will teach you how to use tī kōuka / cabbage tree leaves as these are abundantly available. If you have access to tī kōuka / cabbage tree leaves, do bring in as big a bundle as you can!
There are 7 places available in this workshop and booking is essential, and non-refundable.
Minimum numbers are required for the class to run.
Refund/credit requests
Participants who have COVID 19 symptoms, or who are required to self-isolate due to being a close contact, must not attend the workshop.
If you need to miss the workshop in order to isolate, we need to be advised of this as soon as possible, so that we can try to fill your space. Depending on the circumstances, you will either be offered a refund or a credit.
Refunds or credits will not be given if participants arrive to the workshop unwell, or without a Vaccine pass, and they will be asked to leave.
We are grateful to be able to offer this workshop because of support from Creative New Zealand, and from Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre.
