Central Otago high country farmer Eden Hore has left New Zealand an extraordinary legacy, one that captures the imagination of us all. Eden Hore Central Otago is a compelling story set the timeless and majestic Central Otago high country, of an unlikely fashion enthusiast who amassed a collection of ladies’ 1970s and 80s garments that personify the flamboyance, vibrancy and elegance of an industry that he loved.

Hailing from Naseby Central Otago, Eden Hore was a World War II veteran and an innovative sheep and cattle farmer of note and a collector of rare animals, treasures from around the world and of course; fashion. His story is interwoven with the dramatic region in which he lived – the vivid contrast between the sternness of the High Country and the high glamour of the fashion parades and beauty pageants he would frequent to find the couture he purchased.

Eden Hore Central Otago has captured the imagination of the New Zealand creative community. Experts are actively supporting this project and their combined energy and skills are creating incredible opportunities for the collection and the community.

In late 2019 a group of internationally acclaimed fashion industry professionals, led by renowned photographer Derek Henderson, created a series of photographs of Eden’s high fashion garments in stunning Central Otago landscapes. The photographs are a testament to the collaborative efforts of many helpers, fashion curators and textile conservation specialists, all drawn by the mystique of the Eden Hore Central Otago collection.

This photography project was developed in partnership with the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongawera and Central Otago District Council.
