What happens when a group of friends that share the love of photography start to plan an event that brings together the best of local and out of town photographers, exhibitions and workshops? A week long Foto Festival is born!
Thanks to support from Hastings Alive City Activation Fund FOTOFEST is set to see Hastings City buzzing. The idea to create an event for all to enjoy with or without a camera, will see exhibitions in shop windows , pop up galleries and definitely something for everyone to enjoy during the week . From budding photographers to families looking for fun things to do, you will discover not only amazing exhibitions but creative workshops, digital exhibitions and something for the kids, photography treasure hunts.
Thanks to Sony, locals will be able to get a feel of what it’s like to be behind the scenes at some of NZ's top music gigs. The exhibition ‘From the Pit’ is one of NZ longest running music exhibitions and this year goes digital shown on a massive screen, bringing the city alive.
The very talented Petra Leary will be exhibiting her renowned drone images of basketball courts that show amazing geometry and design that will simply amaze. Petra hunts out unusual landscapes and captures them in her signature birds eye view style.
Expect to be captivated by photographer James Foys images of endangered African animals. These images are set against a stark black background, James hope is to inspire others to help be the voice of these beautiful wild animals .
IHC NZ are also exhibiting the winners of their very first NZ Photography Awards in a stand alone exhibition during the event, with all work also for sale.
On the local front you will get to attend workshops by Hawkes Bays top commercial photographers, fine art photographers, inspiring youth photographers and an award winning sport photographer .
You could then attend a workshop from a photographer and filmmaker whose specialty is adrenaline sports who will share how to grow your following on social media.
Now is the time to head to the website so you can keep the date free to take in the competitions, daily prizes and of course limited spaces to book into the free talks and workshops.
All this and more held amongst the culture, cafe and art vibe that Hastings city is becoming known for.
FOTOFEST runs from Friday 30th September through to Friday October 7th
