Join a guided tour of the Observatory Tower and hear the stories of how it was used from 1896 to today. Find out about the amazing heritage restoration of the part-collapsed Tower. Look at the photos and temporary display panels in the 1st floor exhibition space. Then climb up the steep wooden stairs to the Dome Room, which has a new dome and in future will house the restored Townsend Teece Telescope.
There are additional times on the 9, 16 & 23 Oct between 1pm - 1.30pm and 1.30pm-2pm.
Cost: $5 per person
Venue: Clock Tower entrance
If the weather allows, have a walk out onto the Tower balcony for one of the best views in Christchurch.
NOTE: this tour involves ascending and descending four flights of steep heritage wooden stairs, there is no elevator and no wheelchair or stroller access, sorry.
This event is part of the Christchurch Heritage Festival and supported by the Christchurch City Council Heritage Festival Community Grant.
