Originally from New Zealand, Hamish Smith is an award-winning bassist, composer, and educator. He has been described by NEA Jazz Master, Todd Barkan, as “a modern marvel - one of the great young bassists in the world”. Currently living in New York, Hamish has quickly become a highly sought-after musician. His career highlights include tours, performances, and/or recordings with artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Dayna Stephens, Miguel Zenon, Manuel Valera, Michael Rodriguez, Benito González and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Hamish is also a founding member of the collaborative group, Immigrantet, along with Nicola Caminiti and Juan Diego Villalobos.

For his one night at Bedlam & Squalor, Hamish will be playing compositions that he is about to record on his debut leader recording later this year.
He also plans to rework some repertoire that he performs regularly with some of his contemporaries in New York. “I look forward to returning to the city of Wellington to play with some old friends and share some new music with the New Zealand music community once again"
