Whether you are new to weaving or bring some prior experience, this is an opportunity to learn slightly more complicated techniques. Once you have the basics, and at your own pace, you can move onto rectangular-based kono roa using thinner whenu, weaving kono, (four cornered baskets) smaller or bigger, completing with a variety of finishes.
In a friendly and supportive environment, this workshop will include the techniques of weaving with NZ Flax - Harakeke along with being taught the cultural customs and traditions of working within the sustainable practices of tikanga and the values toi raranga (the protocols of flax cutting and handling which surround this time-honored craft).
NZ Flax - Harakeke is the most enduring of all New Zealand native plants, a natural resource, and easily accessible. Over time your harakeke weaving will take on a glorious golden hue.
Tutor - OZ Risner has extensive experience and knowledge in weaving Harakeke into beautiful shapes and forms.
