This year's Heritage Festival concert celebrates the early years of Leys Orchestra's community music-making, focusing on some of the challenges their conductors overcame.
The programme features Herold's 'Zampa Overture', which was performed in the inaugural concert given by the Leys Institute Orchestra in November 1912.
The programme has music drawn from the orchestra's library of heritage music, including 'Rangatira March' by Archie Don and characteristic pieces by Marsden.
An interlude for repose is provided by the laid-back 'Lazy Dance' by British composer, teacher and opera singer Amanda Aldridge, who published under the pseudonym Montague Ring.
Also in the programme is 'Mock Morris' by Percy Grainger. An autographed score of his piece was presented by this eccentric Australian composer to the Leys Institute Orchestra conductor Harold Baxter during a tour of New Zealand in 1926.
Admission is free.
