Following the overturning of Roe v Wade by SCOTUS (making abortion illegal for the first time in 50 years), women in the USA are now in a position where they have no control over their bodies. The effects have been immediate in some states where abortion was immediately declared illegal. For example, a 10 year old rape victim in Ohio was denied the right to an abortion by a judge - on July 1st 2022. It defies belief that, in the 21st century, the rape victim and the doctor who performs her abortion will receive longer prison sentences than the man who raped her.

The rest of the abortion trigger laws will reportedly go into effect in the remaining states from July 30th hence why we're wanting to raise as much money as possible before the 30th.

And it doesn't stop there! SCOTUS have set a dangerous precedent of the removal of rights we in NZ consider to be basic human rights. And, in the absence of a ratified Equal Rights Act, the judgment could also be indicative of the overturning of right we take for granted as guaranteed that aren't enshrined in legislation. These include access to contraception, the legality of same sex marriage and even the right to inter-racial marriage. This is a slippery slope heading back to the days of Jim Crow and subjugation of women and minority groups as second class citizens in their own country.

Although this issue is deadly serious, our fundraiser will not be - the last thing anyone needs after 2.5 years of disruption from Covid is a night feeling Depresso Expresso. And this isn't just a women's issue - this is an everyone issue!!

We're taking a stand here in New Zealand by doing what we do best - supporting our friends and whānau in the USA with a night of fun, laughs and fantastic music!

John and the team at Pocket Bar and Kitchen Grey Lynn have very generously donated the space to us for the night.

Join us at Pocket Bar Grey Lynn to see some of NZ's most established comedians and musicians as well as red hot up and coming stars.

Performers on the night include - Michèle A'Court, Donna Brookbanks, Matt Coombe, Sebastian Holland Dudding (Clovis), Jacqui Hooper, Jess Loudon, James Maeva, Anatonio Te Maioha, Jonathan Martin, Paul McLaney (Gramsci), Summer Jade Millett, Kevin Ransom, Andra Shocker, David Stuart, Aimee Thorne, Henry Yan and Johnny Yan.
