Violinist Liu-Yi Retallick joined the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra as Associate Concertmaster in 2016. Prior to moving to New Zealand, Liu-Yi spent most of her life growing up in Malaysia, before moving to Singapore to pursue her music degree.
After graduating, Liu-Yi won first prize at the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition, as well as the Malaysian Youth Foundation Competition. Since joining the APO, Liu-Yi has performed as a soloist with the orchestra, and taken part in numerous chamber concerts as part of the In Your Neighbourhood Series. She also continues to play in orchestras in Asia and Europe when her APO schedule allows.

German recorder player Wolfgang Kraemer studied with Marion Michel at the Conservatory of Luxembourg. His teachers also included Armgard Pudelko and Walter van Hauwe.
In 2004 Wolfgang moved to Christchurch where he became a part time lecturer in recorder and chamber music at the University of Canterbury. In addition to that he works as a recorder teacher, a chamber musician and as a soloist.
In 2006, he became the director of “The Pettman National Junior Academy of Music” a scholarship programme for highly talented young musicians, and since 2007 he is directing the “International Akaroa Music Festival”.

This year, we are celebrating the 15th Edition of the International Akaroa Music Festival.
