This full weekend course runs 9am - 5pm on Saturday and Sunday 24 - 25 September 2022. A repeat course will run over the weekend 29 - 30 October] 2022.
Join experienced apiculture teacher Greg Harrington for this intensive introduction to beekeeping. You'll leave this course with enough knowledge to manage your own beehive including queen rearing and how to split a hive. Course outline:
- Protective clothing
- Health and safety (theory)
- Calendar of seasonal operations and pest and disease management plan (theory)
- Physical characteristics and behavior of bees (theory)
- Beehive assembly and repair
- Opening and closing a beehive
- Feeding a beehive theory
- Requeening a beehive (theory and practical)
- Shifting beehives (theory and practical)
- Supering up hives for honey flow (theory and practical)
- Harvest honey and assist in honey extraction
- Bee disease including AFB and varroa (also the AFB recognition)
- Wintering down
- Bee anatomy & physiology
