Are you struggling to support a child or adult with dyslexia?
Are you concerned about a child’s learning journey?
Are you aware of children who are disruptive, or withdrawn, bright but not achieving?
Are you working with a child who is not progressing as you would expect?

The SPELD NZ Introduction to Specific Learning Disabilities [SLD] two-day course is for you.

This Level 3 NZQA-approved course is an Introduction. It will cover great insights into what it’s like to have an SLD like dyslexia and why SLD occurs. It offers constructive, practical strategies to help these learners in the classroom setting and at home.

Look into what is happening in the brain of these learners and how this can impact their learning. Accommodations and remediation suggestions, including what skills are needed for success in learning, are covered and practical activities. This two-day course has specific sections about SLD and Maths, SLD and writing and also Phonological and Phonemic Awareness (reading and spelling).

Participants get to experience how it may feel to have a Specific Learning Disability and "walk a mile in the shoes" of a person who lives day to day with an SLD, like dyslexia or dyscalculia.

Attendees come from a variety of backgrounds, including parents/whanau and educators (teacher aides, tutors, Learning Support Co-ordinators, teachers, SENCO, school management). This course is suitable for people with limited knowledge of SLD (such as dyslexia) and for people interested in refreshing their knowledge or learning more.

The opportunity to discover more about SLD, with an often diverse group, can be an insightful experience.

Training subsidies for teachers are currently available and their cost will be $100+gst. Please contact support@speld.org.nz to confirm your interest.
