Kai Workshops: Edible Weeds

Note: This workshop has been postponed from the 7th of May to the 21st of May due to illness.
This is a workshop on identifying the edible “weeds” you'll find around us at this time of the year and what to do with them!

We'll wander around the Kukutaaruhe Community Garden (Te Maara Kai o Kukutaaruhe) looked after by the Fairfield Project. You'll be shown how to identify 'weeds' that you can eat. Many of them are a great source of vitamins!

Location: We'll meet you at the Kukutaaruhe Community Garden - which is visible at the end of the carpark, accessed from College Place which is off Bankwood Road.

This is one in a series of kai workshops, hosted by Go Eco (Waikato Environment Centre).
Learn how to grow your own kai, from sowing seeds to pruning trees. We're hosting this series at community gardens across the city, The Fairfield Project, Western Community Centre and Waimarie: Hamilton East Community House.

Local food growing is a climate action and builds food secure communities. "Food security exists when all people at all times have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life".

Our kai workshops are facilitated by Michael Heiler, our resident gardener and aborist who takes a permaculture approach to the relationship of food growing & the environment
