Bring the whole whānau for this free drop-in kite-making workshop as part of the Matariki ki Te Māra a Tāne/Matariki at Zealandia celebrations. Have fun creating a Matariki-inspired manu tukutuku/kite with colourful up-cycled materials, with artist Margaret Tolland there to help.
We have two drop-in sessions running on July 14 and 16, 11am - 3pm.
After crafting, take your kite out for a test run in the Wellington wind, just like Māori tupuna who flew kites to celebrate the start of the Māori New Year, when Matariki (the Pleiades) appeared in the mid-winter night sky.
Meet at the Heritage Lawn if fine or the Visitor Centre foyer if wet/windy.
This is a free drop-in event, however general sanctuary entrance fees apply. Kids (under 17) go free during the July school holidays July 9 - 24 2022 with a paying adult. See the Zealandia website for more information.
