“Kua whetūrangihia koe” - you have become a star in the night sky.

This work uses pattern, repetition, light and form to engage with our connection to our piwaiwaka and the purakau of Pohutukawa (one of the 9 stars of Matariki). Our Piwaiwaka is known to share messages from the deceased to the living and pohutukawa is known to carry our deceased across Ranginui for the year until Matariki sets in the west and rises again in the east marking the new year. They remind us to hold tight to our memories of treasured people who have passed on.

On display in The Culture Club, 3rd June - 10th July.

Opening hours:
10am-3pm Tuesday-Friday,
10am-2pm Saturdays.

Please note, this work will be visible through the Culture Club windows at all hours.

Part of The Incubator Creative Hub 2022 Matariki Programme.
