In 1988 Laurence Aberhart received a Fulbright New Zealand scholarship to visit the United States of America. Aberhart travelled the length of the Mississippi visiting the southern states of the USA.

Faith Healer Signs of the American South is an exhibition of images made during this trip, it is the artist's fifteenth exhibition at Brett McDowell Gallery.
