On this, the first day of Spring, Erica Sim (Mezzo Soprano), Maria Archer (Soprano) and Pauline Boyd (Piano) present a concert of Duets and solo spring themed songs from Thomas Morley to Mahler, from Handel to Gershwin.
Erica Sim (Mezzo Soprano), Maria Archer (Soprano) will be accompanied by Pauline Boyd (Piano) in this lunchtime concert of “Spring Songs”. Erica and Pauline will be well known to Nelson Audiences and are joined by Maria for this concert.
To celebrate the 1st of September being the official beginning of Spring they will present duets and spring themed songs from Thomas Morley to George Gershwin. The songs will cover a wide variety of beautiful flowers, a few young lovers, a lot of optimism, a broken heart, and some of the most beautiful music ever written.
Musical genres from lieder, musicals and an opera will be included and all within one lunchtime.
The flowers will include “Veilchen” (Violet) by Mozart and “Bluebells” by MacDowell. A beautiful bunch of “Spring” titled songs by Handel, Mahler, Greig, Wolf, and Ireland will also have the opportunity to blossom during this concert.
The concert will be concluded with “Summertime” from Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” as a taste of what we can all look forward to when Spring fades and the weather warms up again.
