Dianne Morgan and the Jade River Ukes are excited to announce that they have engaged one of Australasia’s most successful uke/folk bands, The Nukes, as the headline act for this year’s Mahurangi Ukulele Festival at the Warkworth Town Hall. Also performing is Blues Legend, Paul Jonson, who uses unique custom adapted and resonator ukes to express the true feeling of the traditional blues, boogie and ragtime singers. Paul’s passion for 4 stringed instruments has inspired him to direct the famous 4String Festival.

The Nukes will play a public concert from 4-6.00pm, open to all in the community. This concert will coincide with their fourth album release 'Homespun 'so expect new tunes in the show. There will also be a day of workshops for ukers, singers, songwriters, lovers of music from 10am to 4pm. Local celebrity and ukulele teacher, Dianne Morgan, with the Jade River Ukes Band will teach a workshop on Sea Shanties, incredibly popular now, featuring The Wellerman and an original Riff Queen Sea Shanty, followed by NZ Blues Legend, Paul Jonson, with a new workshop: Blues, Boogie and Ragtime. With basic blues boogie and ragtime, ukers will improve the quality of style and technique. All workshops suitable for beginners and advanced. Paul will also have his Trade Table with up to 30 ukes, tune up tools and uke accessories. Invited ukulele groups from Auckland [Mahurangi South!] to Kerikeri will perform and share their skills.

The Nukes will teach a FREE workshop for school children after the lunch break, followed by a workshop introducing a new book of original material with lyrics and tablature to two new recordings: Henry’s Waltz and a piece based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (ltd numbers booking essential ). Both workshops will be informative and practical with something for everyone. Nukes workshops are fun, engaging and punters will take away workshop resources to help them apply their new knowledge to their playing.
