This one-day airbrushing for potters workshop, taught by Pōneke/Wellington potter and educational studio owner Karla Marie, will cover the core fundamentals and best practice for successful glaze and underglaze application with an airbrush.
Topics explored will include:
• clay, ware and glaze preparation.
• introduction to 5 types of airbrush systems, equipment, compressors, alternative air sources and extraction units;
• free hand airbrushing;
• soft and hard masking techniques;
• airbrush cleaning & maintenance.
Participants are invited to bring one pre bisque fired piece - plates and larger items preferable. A selection of pre-made works will be available to use for those unable to provide their own.
Attendees also required to bring a properly fitted P2 half face respirator, or a well fitted P2 dust/vapor mask. These should be in new condition and create a good seal around the face, and should not be the same mask one uses on a daily basis.
Karla Marie’s airbrushing equipment will be available to participants for the duration of the workshop.
This workshop is designed for beginner through to advanced potters who are brand new to airbrushing, or have had limited success in the past.
