As a young singer/songwriter from the Whakatipu, Billie Carey has grown up surrounded by the music and artistic community in Queenstown.

Music has been a part of Billie’s life from the very start. Billie began composing music at age seven, inspired by soundtracks for films her father was producing. After having her music performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at age eight, her horizons only got bigger by the time she moved to high school, where she found a love for writing lyrics and more pop-influenced songs. Since then, Billie has won the nationwide Play It Strange 2021 Youthtown Songwriting competition, has been a finalist in the Lion Foundation Songwriting competition multiple times, and received the 2021 David Richwhite Lyric Award. She competed and won first place in the Central Otago division of Rockquest and received the Rockquest APRA Lyric Award in 2021. She competes in many local competitions, and participates in every musical extracurricular activity Wakatipu High School has to offer, mentored by the legendary Alison Price. Billie describes her style as indie-pop with a few folk influences, drawing inspiration from artists such as Taylor Swift, Howard Shore, Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen. She looks to build a career in film scoring – composing, arranging, and producing music for movies and television.

Billie will be showcasing an array of past and new material at her upcoming Te Atamira show Billie.
