Oil Portrait Painting | Art Classes

This is a unique opportunity to learn portraiture under one of New Zealand’s most notable and respected figurative artists. This oil painting course will be an introduction to portraits using a traditional wet-into-wet [Alla Prima] oil painting technique. Beginning with copies of old master paintings and moving on to photographs students will be taught drawing techniques, quick colour studies, palette organisation, colour perception, tone, light, proportion, and anatomical structure.

As the course progresses students will paint a long portrait. Individual feedback will focus on sensitivity to light and colour. Oil painting demonstrations are provided. Suitable for all levels, though some prior basic painting experience is preferable.
