Auckland’s premier delicatessen Buono has launched a new weekend market, and along with it, this brand-new website. Reviving what was formerly the La Cigale French Weekend Markets, Buono has created the Parnell Gastro Market.

Back in late 2021 the beloved La Cigale weekend farmers market closed down due to the closure of the La Cigale café, after the café went through a tough time with the COVID restrictions.

The owners of the café had been running the market for 24 years, each Saturday and Sunday in Parnell, and it was inspired by similar farmers markets all across France. The markets were seen as an intrinsic part of Auckland’s foodie scene and their closure was a real blow to what had become a great institution.

After opening the doors to their Italian deli in late September of 2022, the team at Buono decided that Parnell, and Auckland at large, needed a place for foodies to come and enjoy the spoils of some of the best local producers.

This is why they decided to launch the Parnell Gastro Market and this brand-new site to go along with it! To hopefully fill the hole in everyone’s tummies that was left by La Cigale’s unfortunate closure.
