ARTIST STATEMENT.

I am interested in making art that speaks both to me and resonates with others through my use of colour, the energy of my mark-making and the multiple layers of texture and colour that I build up.

I feel that “Beauty Nourishes the Soul” and although I don’t strive for beauty I do want my work to be uplifting and a pleasure to live with. I try to create work that is dramatic from a distance but when viewed up close contains enough interest so that new details can be found and enjoyed on each and every viewing.

If I was to say what is most important to me, it is bound up in the feeling response I get to the colours I use.

ARTIST BIO.

Susanne is both an abstract painter and intaglio collagraph printmaker whose work reflects her strong love of colour.

Over the years her work has changed from semi realistic to intuitive non-objective pieces incorporating texture, mark making and pattern. She finds this compelling and challenging.

Paintings from her older Musical Series are regularly used to promote prestigious musical events and have been used in many different places all over the world including the Virenze Concerts held in the classical 14th century Castle Rijckholt in the Netherlands and Sinfónico Pereira in Colombia.

While living in the UK in the early 2000’s she studied under a master printmaker and became fascinated with a printing technique called Collagraph. Susanne’s work in this medium encompasses a variety of themes drawn from a wide range of subject matter.

Her paintings and handprints are in collections in Canada, NZ, Australia, China, Europe, the UK and USA.

A Kiwi by birth she has lived in Ottawa and Toronto, the historic city of York in the UK and the US three times in three different places. Susanne now is delighted to live in Havelock North after returning to NZ in 2020.
