“Pōhutu is a masterfully crafted performance, a koha not just for Bianca Hyslop’s own whānau, her own grandmother, but one for all audiences who bear witness to it.” - Pantograph Punch

The past, present and future abruptly intersect in multi-disciplinary dance work Pōhutu, a rich synthesis of image, object, movement, and sound. Pōhutu is an ode to the human experience navigating the ever shifting nature of memory, time, place and loss. Created by visionary Aotearoa artists, choreographer Bianca Hyslop and artist Rowan Pierce.

After the recent cancellation of the programmed season at the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival, 2022 this will be a night not to be missed.

FREE PERFORMANCE:
One performance only
7.30pm, Saturday 15th October 2022
Te Raukura ki Kāpiti, Coastlands Theatre
32 Raumati Road, Raumati Beach, Paraparaumu

Pōhutu first premiered in June 2019 at Kia Mau Festival, Wellington before opening Tempo Dance Festival in Auckland, 2019. Pōhutu has had a phenomenal impact on all those who have witnessed it.

"Pōhutu is astonishing. Not astonishing in the hyperbolic sense but in a my-heart-is-retreating-further-into-my-chest sense of the word." - Pantograph Punch

“The beginning and end sequences draw gasps from the audience. The middle sequences contain some of the most compelling imagery I’ve seen in performance... an unsettling and utterly beautiful work.” The Wellingtonista
