Puaka Matariki Community Celebration Weekend

Celebrate this special time of year with fun activities for the whole whānau at Tūhura Otago Museum.

We have something for everyone every day of the long weekend. There will be performances by Tenaya Brown and poi workshops. Have a go at the catch and throw game tītī tōrea.

See taonga pūoro – traditional Māori musical instruments – and try them out with our expert helpers on Friday between 1pm and 4pm.

There will be manu aute – manu tukutuku – kite making workshops, children’s Matariki stories and Kāi Tahu legends daily in Tangata Whenua gallery.

Our famous Makerspace will be open for crafting, and on Friday morning you can even make and take home a beeswax wishing candle. Over the weekend, there will be games, astronomy and more!
