Join us in exploring the magical night-time world of Sanctuary Mountain® Maungatautari with one of our experienced guides leading you in search of nocturnal forest wonders. Marvel at the twinkling lights of glow-worms, see the brilliance of the undersides of silver fern fronds and gaze up at the stars on a crystal clear night, away from the bright lights of the city.
Search by torchlight for spiders, millipedes, beetles and the many species of weta that venture out at night in search of food. Listen for the nocturnal calls of kiwi and ruru (New Zealand’s only surviving endemic owl) as you enjoy the peaceful forest night air.
Discover the important role Maungatautari has in conservation as a stronghold for western brown kiwi recovery. In spring and summer, you might be lucky enough to see tiny long-tailed bats along the treeline at dusk or to hear the nocturnal calls of kaka.
Please note your booking will not be confirmed until the minimum charge (equivalent to 4 adults) has been met.
The Visitor Services Team will send a payment request when the minimum charge has been met for this tour, and your booking will be confirmed upon receipt of payment.
