Now retired from farming Steve has plenty of time for his love of painting and finds himself frequently drawn to the valleys, outcrops and sky line of the Akaroa basin.
Having walked and explored these hills as a kid, and later farmed at Akaroa and Flea Bay, he has seen the landscape in all its seasons and sense something spiritual in this land.
Utilising the land forms, this group of semi-abstract works are an expression of the past and present, an exploration of European and Maori history, place names and legends.
