The Incubator

Extensive and creative ceramic workshop offering close supervision and plenty of guidance from a professional ceramic artist of many years. There will be a maximum of 10 students who will be provided with 2 kilos of clay each to build the house or village they desire in a small friendly and supportive class. This is a fabulous opportunity to explore clay over a whole day.

Students are guided and supported thorough the process of creating clay buildings that will withstand the processes of making, colouring, (if desired), drying, handling, glazing, and firing. All care will be taken at each step and students will have the option of choosing an array of colours and finishes to suit their creative vibe and experience.

Tutor: Deb Fleming

All Materials Supplied

With plenty of time to experiment students will plan, measure, and carefully cut out their design, transferring it onto the clay, build, then colour and finish their work, while exploring the process and enjoying the experience. Students will choose a glazing technique to suit their personality, application, and potential outcome.

If by chance your style is more abstract or gestural, loose free and unexplored, feel free to bring your story to the table. All welcome.

A long history in ceramic art has Deb Fleming eager to share what she has learned and experienced. Recently completing a master’s in visual art with ceramics at Otago, her experience as a self-employed ceramic storyteller since the late 70s has culminated in having a lot of creativity to offer.
