The Kist - a concert for the Red Cross appeal for Ukraine

The Kist was formed after Pat Higgins heard the sound of a cello from deep in the woods at Wellington Folk Festival. After an arduous and dangerous trek, he came upon a grotto where Rusty Tonz was playing Bach to the podocarps.

After returning to civilization the new flute and cello duet teamed up with 5-string violin player Jude Madill. The Kist is now a trio and features cello, flute, violin, guitar, and frailing banjo. The repertoire stretches from the mists of Ireland to the coal mines of the American Eastern seaboard along with original songs.

The Kist are happiest with themes of love, loss, life and death, to help us make sense of our shared human condition.

They'll share their music in this unique concert to raise funds for New Zealand Red Cross's Ukraine humanitarian crisis appeal.
