Have you experienced Turoa in the summer?

There are beautiful valleys and striking volcanic features tucked away nearby. Come for a wander up to the Wintergarden, then a scramble over the rocky terrain out to the east to see the botanical alpine treasures hidden there nestled in the amazing lava flows. You will see a completely different perspective – and we will tell you some stories on the way. We may see a North Island edelweiss but no guarantees. If we have clear weather, the vista over the Rangataua Lava flow and out towards the Waimarino are stunning.

This trip is led by two ex DOC staff, now local conservationists and mountain enthusiasts; one with an interest in the local history and botany, and the other a policy and land tenure expert.

Trip Length: Approx 4-5 hours
Minimum Age: 12 years
Maximum Participants: 20
Meeting Place: Tūroa Ski Area Plaza (at the seating outside ski field café) @10am
Transport: Own - must drive up to Tūroa
Cost: Koha

Trip may be cancelled or postponed due to weather. Postponement date 7th January 2022. Covid alert levels changes may also result in cancellation.
