Wellington Diwali Festival

Wellington’s vibrant Diwali festival of Lights returns to the capital on Sunday 16 October 2022, from 3.30pm-8.30pm. Join us at the Michael Fowler Centre for non-stop cultural entertainment planned for the whole family.

The festival's vegetarian food stalls will tickle your taste buds and we may also have some pre-packed food for you to take home.
Browse through retail stalls selling Indian clothes, jewellery and colour your hands with henna at various stalls about the centre.

Children can entertain themselves and learn new skills with the Indian lantern making activities.

Be entertained with traditional, contemporary, folk, fusion and Bollywood performances.

Celebrations will conclude with colourful fireworks display along the Waterfront from 8.45 pm (subject to weather conditions).

The focus of the festival this year is on contributing to social and cultural inclusion, social cohesion, and celebrating ethnic diversity. The festival plays an important cultural and social role in our wider communities.
