Walking into the night: experiencing darkness and the natural world.
Whakatane-raised Annette Lees is an author and conservationist whose work and writing explore the connections between people and the natural world. Her book After Dark, Walking into the nights of Aotearoa was longlisted for the 2021 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards and has been presented at numerous arts and book festivals.
Join us for an evening with Annette as she explores the mysteries of our natural world after dark - the sounds, scents and sights by the light of the stars and moon, and in the company of night-singing insects and birds. Annette’s presentation will guide us from dusk to dawn through a rich and fascinating trove of night stories: tales of war stealth, fireworks and ghosts; nights lit by candles, fires and lighthouses; night surfing and night skiing; mountain walking in the dark and night navigation on ocean voyaging waka.
Annette will finish the evening with a book signing (her books will be available at the event for purchase)
There will be EFTPOS/Cash bar available, light nibbles will be provided, and we have some amazing raffles up for grabs! Please bring cash to support our raffles.
All profits from the evening will go towards the Whakatane Kiwi Trust.
