In 1974, the Italian designer Enzo Mari created a set of plans for a range of furniture that could be easily assembled and built using simple boards and nails. His designs were led by a belief that everyone should be able to create quality designs from simple materials and techniques.
In this hands-on building workshop designed for children, they’ll work together with their guardians to build one of Enzo Mari’s designs – the ‘P’ chair from the Autoprogettazione series – then take it home to use and enjoy. These workshops have been created by our artist-in-residence Emily Floyd, reflecting the importance of making and doing for learning and thinking.
These workshops are free with all materials, tools and safety gear and snacks provided, and you can take your chair home at the end of the workshop. In return, all we ask is that in keeping with the designer’s philosophy, these chairs are not traded or sold.
The focus of these workshops is on working together to learn the simple building skills to create a chair. All children must be supported throughout the workshop one-on-one by their guardians. Recommended age range is children aged 8-12 years old.
