Alternative text for Hero image: This image is of a plant fibre weaving which shows a stylised image of a mackerel tin label using natural and dyed strips of pandanus. The bottom has natural and dark brown strands woven into diagonal lines. Next, a bright red stripe contains the words ‘New Angel’ written in yellow capitals. Above that is a fat conical mackerel steak, the outer skin in shades of dark and light blue and white and the meat picked out in red and yellow. It sits on a leaf shaded light and dark green and the shadow is casts below in rendered in dark blue. Above the mackerel are narrow woven lines of pale and then darker blue and the top strip repeats the dark brown and natural diagonals at the bottom.

Alternative text for second image: The visitors of an audio-described tour at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki stand at the entrance to a Gallery space. Wearing white conservation gloves, attendees gently touch the wooden wall panels that surround them – an artwork called Te Taumata by Lonnie Hutchinson. The artwork is based on kōwhaiwhai patterns and elements from nature to reflect an upward journey from the ground to the upper canopy of the building. The design is cut into a light American oak wood and envelopes the doorway to the exhibition.
