The release of five historical novels telling true stories of special interest to New Zealanders of Irish descent or simply the Irish at heart.
We are very lucky to be hosting this book launch at Paddy McNaughtons Ale House. Their origin story is similar to Maurice O’Brien - the main character in the Irish Convict series. Many scenes in the novels are set in cosy old Ale Houses in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, always with refreshing ales, homely food, and interesting company. Join us as we imagine what it was like for our Irish ancestors to live in New Zealand in the early 1800s.
The author Tom O’Connor is a writer and historian specialising in Maori history and New Zealand history. He is also the author of the Te Rauparaha series: Tides of Kawhia, Pathways of Taranaki and Shadows of Kapiti.
Tom O’Connor, will introduce the Irish Convict books being launched and talk about the inspiration for the stories. He will be available to autograph your book(s). We also have another special guest, Tom’s sister, Maureen O’Connor, a geneologist who discovered the ancestor that inspired parts of the Irish Convict story.
The books:
Lost Sons
Outback Shepherds

Troubled Waters
(more information about the books and Toms other books is available on his website www.tomoconnor.co.nz)
