Terrazzo Home Decor | Workshop

Add the finishing touch to your handcrafted home! In this Terrazzo Home Decor workshop, you will make your own oval trinket tray or pair of coasters and elevate your home with the distinctive terrazzo style matched with the satisfaction of knowing it was made by you. A gorgeous complement to your dresser or coffee table, a handmade trinket is a perfect piece for holding your jewellery, candles or glasses.

You will be able to decide the colours and combinations for your piece and make it all starting with the terrazzo chips and working your way from there.

What happens in the class
Your tutor Sam from Terrazzo Trinkets will take you through how to make a trinket tray or pair of coasters starting off with planning out what colour scheme you would like. I will then take you through making the terrazzo chips in the colour of your choice, pigments in a variety of colours will be provided and you can choose to use the premade colours or mix a colour yourself. The mix will be poured and once set you will have the very satisfying job of crunching these up and turning into chips. You will be using these chips in the final product mix. There will be a lot of measuring, mixing, pouring and tapping action happening all afternoon. Once the final trinket is set, you will need to sand this using a variety of sand paper grits by hand to reveal the chips to your liking and then give it a super smooth finish.

What skills will you learn, what will they take home?
You will learn how make a trinket from start to finish and have all the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself to take home. You will have the choice to make a small oval tray or a pair of circle coasters. While it is predominantly a class designed for making terrazzo finished products, you are also welcome to create a marble finish in a mix of colours if that better suits you and your style. Once you have made and sealed your piece in class, you will be able to take it home with you at the end of the class.

What kind of people is it suitable for, all levels?
This class is suitable for all levels from beginner to expert, Sam will take everyone through each step by making her own piece at the same time so there will be real time examples, there will also be a written instruction sheet if you are more of a learner by reading so you can also refer back to any of the steps if needed. We recommend this class for ages 16 and up. Please wear something you don’t mind potentially getting a little bit dirty as there is always a chance of the colour pigments ending up where they shouldn’t or a bit of the sanding water getting on you.
