Pruning trees during the winter months has considerable benefit. Your trees may be out of control and blocking a view or winter sun, or they may have stopped producing fruit as you expect. We do winter pruning for ‘our’ benefit and the trees long and happy life, come and learn why and how.
Diseases generally hibernate during the winter months making them less likely to be transmitted. Winter pruning will stimulate lots of new growth for spring by giving the trees more sunlight, nutrients, and moisture.
This is a unique hands-on opportunity to ‘have a go’ with the loppers and secateurs under the watchful guidance and support of Derek and Julie Craig.
Practical advice is given on all general aspects of pruning to increase your fruit production and control the shape of trees. Information is given on shaping young pip and stone fruit trees as well as pruning mature pip and stone fruit trees.
There is no doubt that most trees benefit from pruning and at a certain time of year, but it is important to consider the species, the location and the time of year.
Your tutor Derek Craig will guide you with the techniques of pruning (cutting and trimming) correctly, so you get your tree producing and looking a picture of good health.
