Disenfranchised grief simmers at the heart of Angela Singer's new exhibition Soft Star.
Singer, a mixed-media artist, explores the profound relationships we share with pets and the associated grief and mourning we have for them when they die which is often not socially legitimatised and too often borne in silence. Singer invites us to explore our own grief for these profound relationships.
Based in the Wairarapa, Singer has created artworks about the human-animal relationship and the consequences of humanity’s destructive relationship with the natural world since the mid-1990s. Her art has featured in exhibitions locally at Te Papa and The Dowse, and internationally including at Kensington Palace, London; Universcience Cité des sciences et de l’industrie, Paris; Royal West of England Academy (RWA); and in museum and public exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Rhode Island, Berlin and Poland.
