Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening of Maori culture and cuisine at the Haumoana Marae. Join us for the Cultural Experience Hangi Dinner and Concert Show, where you'll enjoy an authentic hangi feast and captivating performances.
Event Details:
6:00 PM - Arrive. "Welcome to Haumoana Marae, Te Ahi Kaa Whare" (We live here).
6:10 PM - Gather at the Waharoa entrance for a traditional powhiri (welcome), including a wero/warrior challenge and Kaikaranga/female caller.
6:15 PM - Host engagement with a greeting and introduction, along with explanations and a view of our kawakawa.
6:30 PM - Witness the uplifting of an authentic in-the-ground hangi pit dinner.
6:45 PM - Learn about the tribal history of Ngati Tuwharetoa. Discover Maori healing plants, weaponry, or weaving, with interactive narration.
7:00 PM - Kaikaranga for the kai/Call for dinner. Guests enter the dining hall for a buffet meal.
Buffet Menu:
Tender NZ Lamb, Succulent Pork, Seasoned Chicken
Potatoes, Kumara, Pumpkin or Sweet Corn, Carrots, Roasted Beetroot & Vegie Medley
Buttery Herb Stuffing & Brown Gravy
Fresh Seasonal Garden Salads, Bean Salad & Crunchy Coleslaw
Traditional Baked Maori Bread (Fried or Rewana) served in traditionally woven Kono/baskets

7:30 PM - Cultural performance featuring 6-7 performers, including the host.
8:30 PM - Q&A session and a group photo (if time permits).
8:45-9:00 PM - Depart "Te Ahi Kaa Whare."
Note: Guests are welcome to view the hangi being placed into the ground earlier in the day at 1 PM, time TBC.
