About Paul McLaney

New Zealand-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Paul McLaney presents his new book, Bookshop Prayers in a one hour recital of poetry and music.

Paul McLaney is a long-standing contributor to the musical landscape as both a recording artist of over twenty album releases in his own name and as part of the band Gramsci. Added to this are his collaborations with a wide group of musicians including Anika Moa, SJD, Breaks Co-op, Julia Deans, Fly My Pretties, Jeff Boyle (Jakob), Eden Mulholland and Rhian Sheehan.

He is also a composer of theatre and dance scores, Director of Music and composer for The Pop-Up Globe; as well as been the Musical Supervisor for WOW: The World of Wearable Art, responsible for the commissioning of new work and facilitating music licensing requirements. He recently released his first book ‘The Deep Dark Hole’ in 2023 and is now celebrating its sequel ‘Bookshop Prayers’. Available now through Hedley's Books.

This event is part of Yarns in Barns: Wairarapa Festival of Reading which takes place between 12–26th October 2024. This community-led festival features cracking yarns and tall tales for all ages from some of Aotearoa's best writers and storytellers held in an eclectic range of venues across the Wairarapa.
