Conservation Kōrero: Lizard Tales of Pōneke

Dates

  • Mon 9 Dec 2024, 6:00pm–7:00pm

Restrictions

All Ages

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is so well known for its feathered fauna that it’s easy to forget about the many inconspicuous species that dwell under logs, in cracks in rock walls, and high up in the branches of trees around the sanctuary. During the warmer months, many lizard species become more active and visible and summer is a great time of year spot skinks basking in the sunshine and skittering across our path.

In our next Conservation Korero, Dr. Christopher Woolley will introduce us to the lizards seen around Wellington and discuss the challenges for conserving this often-overlooked fauna. Christopher is a post-doctoral researcher at Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne and an adjunct researcher at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. His research focusses on reptile conservation, urban ecology, and human-nature relationships.

This event will be held in the Pāteke Room in the Visitor Centre with light refreshments provided. Doors open at 5.45pm.
