Despite the claims of human progress, arguably there is little that distinguishes our contemporary levels of war, violence, and injustice from any other period of human history. At the heart of the Christian tradition is the violent and unjust execution of Jesus. What is the significance of this for how Christians have understood and responded to violence and injustice historically? What is the significance of this for our lives, in a world of increasing polarisation and seemingly perpetual conflict?
