Tāmaki Mākaurau based folk musicians join together for Toitū Te Tiriti fundraiser
Join us on November 10th for an unforgettable evening of heart-warming, foot-stamping, and spirit-lifting music at Folk for Folk, a Tangata Tiriti-led fundraiser in support of the Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti.
As the hīkoi sets off from Te Tai Tokerau to Pōneke, it embarks on a crucial journey to “entrench the truth of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the lives of te iwi Māori and Tangata Tiriti.” This march stands in opposition to the proposed “Treaty Principles” Bill, which many believe distorts the essence of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and undermines the rights promised to Māori, threatening to erase over four decades of hard-won progress for Te Ao Māori.
In solidarity with this important cause, a remarkable lineup of Tāmaki Makaurau folk artists will take the stage to raise funds for the hīkoi organisers, including Auckland Folk Festival favourites Fables, Dave Khan and friends together with indie-folk artist Greta O’Leary; folk newcomers Moon Goose and indie band Echo Children.
To make the evening even more enjoyable, simple vegetarian kai will be available, ensuring a relaxed Sunday evening for all. Families are warmly invited, with a kid-friendly space equipped with art supplies to engage our younger guests.
Cash donations will also be accepted on the day, or attendees can contribute through Humanitix when reserving tickets. All proceeds will directly support the hīkoi organisers.
