Alexander's Feast is a setting of an ode by Dryden in honour of St Cecilia - patron saint of music.
It contains rousing choruses, including a drinking chorus, and one which aims to wake Timotheus up from his slumber using trumpets, drums and full chorus to thrilling effect! It also contains exquisite soprano and tenor airs and an astonishing bass air "Revenge Timotheus Cries" featuring trumpet and bass soloist with very long roulades.
We will also be performing Handel's Harp Concerto in Bb which was designed to be performed as part of this work - think of St Cecilia playing a harp.
We have an excellent cast of soloists including Gina Sanders, Iain Tetley and Andrew Conley. Jessica Kim will play the harp.
