We are excited to unveil the winners of the 2023 Hibiscus and Bays Annual Art Awards showcasing their new work. Part of their prize package was a group exhibition in 2024.
Susannah Law
Susannah’s large-scale works focus on our native bats, particularly the critically endangered long-tailed bat found in various parts of Auckland. Her art reflects her deep love for New Zealand’s native species and her fascination with these ancient creatures that have roamed our land for millions of years.
Sheree Foster
Sheree’s creations are truly one-of-a-kind, each piece a unique blend of repurposed materials. Inspired by the natural world, she harmonizes textiles, metals, flax, and cordage to create stunning artworks that acknowledge our environment. Her work often features a contemporary finish, embodying a connection to the Pacific Rim.
Bernadette Ross
As a master of Raranga (flax weaving), Bernadette’s art showcases the beauty and tradition of this age-old craft. Her intricate pieces celebrate the cultural heritage of New Zealand, intertwining creativity with storytelling through the natural materials she uses.
