Join children’s author Kate Preece for a special storytime to celebrate the launch of her newest book The Butterfly Fluttered By, featuring the insects of Rēkohu Chatham Island. Kate will also be reading another book she released earlier this year, Ten Nosey Weka - the first trilingual counting book featuring te reo Māori and ta rē Moriori. The book follows ten weka as they explore Rēkohu, meet new distractions and make new friends.
Kate Preece is an experienced editor with 14 years’ experience in the magazine industry who now lives on the Chatham Islands/Wharekauri/Rēkohu. In 2022 Kate won the Exisle Academy’s ‘The Story I Needed to Have Read’ short story writing competition. The Butterfly Fluttered By is her third children’s book, with Ten Nosey Weka released in July and One Weka Walking, which was a 2022 Storylines Notable Book Award winner.
This event is being offered alongside the exhibition Hou Rongo – Moriori | Music | Manawa, which will feature in the Beautiful Science Gallery from 14 September – 27 October.
