It goes by many animation names: Stop-motion, Stop-frame, Clay-mation, Puppet animation. It's shooting real
three dimensional objects one frame at a time. If you'd love to learn the old-school 3D before the new-school
3D muscled in, then this course takes you there.

This course is appropriate for beginners from teens to adults.

You will be encouraged to create and work on your own idea(s) for your own animation projects(s). If you'd
rather that a project be provided for you then you also have that option.

We will be looking at various techniques of building models/puppets using various materials or finding
existing items and altering them, to then animate them. We then apply what you have learnt to your own
animation project. The individual help given to each student are also lessons that the rest of the class will
learn from.

Your tutor is Ross Payne, a 30 year veteran of 2d and Stop-motion animation.

You will need your own computer/laptop or device to do your animation. It is recommended that you bring them to class to work on in class, but that is optional. It may be more practical for you to shoot at home while planning, constructing, and editing in class or vice versa.
You will learn

- Options for various stop-motion and editing software. Materials used for various animation techniques.
- Concept and story generating, storyboarding, and SFX through to editing an animatic. Sound effects sourcing, recording, and editing. Timing dialogue and using x-sheets.
- Animation styles and techniques, Sourcing materials. Character design. Economy of design
- Armature making, replacement parts making, combining techniques.
- Acting and posing, anticipation, cycles, loops, ping-pongs, and reuse.
- Special effects. Simple animations of water, fire, smoke etc. Lighting FX.
- Camera placement, focusing, and movement.
- Image editing Exporting to timeline editing. Uploading to share.

All basic tools (cutters, etc) are provided for the use of students. Some materials will be provided for you to
learn various techniques (armature making, modeling materials etc). Depending on which technique you want
to go further with your animation project, there may be more expenses for these sorts of materials etc.
Emphasis is on producing animation on a minuscule or non-existent budget by using computers/laptops or
devices and you already own, free animation software for capturing the images etc, and readily available
materials that are low cost or free. Animating found objects is one way of minimising expenses on materials.
The recycling bin is a wonderful resource for materials for models, props and sets.
