LOVES UGLY CHILDREN
90's NZ band of the Grunge/Punk/Emo/Shoegazer era - all of this tied together with incredible songwriting and playing.
The best!!!
Reuniting after 27 years for ONE SHOW ONLY.
Tamaki Makaurau Auckland, The Mothership - Thursday August 22
The deeply emotive raw power that Aotearoa’s Loves Ugly Children brought to international fans throughout the 1990’s- is BACK.
A hugely powerful force both live and recorded - Loves Ugly Children were arguably the backbone of the underground emo/punk/shoegaze/grunge music scene in New Zealand during the 90's.
Their drive, their energy, their focus - was and still is - pure strength and authenticity. Their output is truly a great case for music being healing; Today's over all weirdness makes it feel like the timing couldn’t be more perfect for this reunion!
When the band were approached by Go Live Festival In Christchurch with the suggestion of reforming - they thought giving it a go wouldn’t hurt, but perhaps didn’t expect the extent the rehearsals would shed light on how damn powerful their songs really are today - how incredibly well they stand up - let alone how easily this trio reconnected both personally and musically after so
many years apart.
The excitement within the band is intoxicating and infectious and this August Loves Ugly Children will gather both nostalgic fans and new fans together, under one roof with one huge PA system to share in a spectacular aural massage!
No doubt with some top-of-the-lungs angsty sing-a-longs. because as much as they’re sonically Punk, the melodic songwriting is impossible to deny.
NZ’s own Loves Ugly Children formed in a shared compound in Christchurch during the very late 80s. After recording various EPs and singles with local labels Flat City Records and Failsafe, Loves Ugly made an impact on Flying Nun Records and went on to release Cold Water Surf (1994), Cakehole (1995), Suck (1996), and finally Showered in Gold in 1997 and contribute tracks to cult status compilations, Abbasalutely and Scarfies.
They toured extensively throughout NZ, Australia and Europe.
Reforming are original members, Simon Maclaren (vocals, guitar) and Floss Fleury (vocals, bass guitar), and Jason Young (vocals, drums) Interviews are available with all three members.
