SINGER Songwriter Luke Hurley returns to Levin to play his unique mix of "Indian tabla meets Irish rock" guitar folk at Firebird cafe on Thursday December 19.
For decades, his original melodies, technically demanding guitar technique, and dynamic rhythms have been showcased on tour with musical legend Marianne Faithful and drawn comparisons with Bruce Cockburn and Ron Sexsmith.
An established performer, Hurley has played them all; pubs, street corners, bookstores, and art galleries here and overseas, earning a reputation as a master craftsman of word and sound, often using humor to suggest different visions of our world.
"One of New Zealand's great unknown musicians.”
-Wellington Busking Festival
"… captivates the listener with gentle melodies, exquisite guitar technique and simple yet sometimes complex rhythms."
-New Zealand Musician
His music can be heard at lukehurley.co.nz.
Luke will be supported by Wellington alt-folk artist Steven Hood, who returns from the United States where he performed 43 gigs this year in San Francisco and New York.
Hood has recently released the first single from his forthcoming LP “Deep Diving” while promoting it across the USA.
“His inspired compositions are heartfelt, uplifting and really rather remarkable.”
- New Zealand Herald.
“Music is an art and Hood paints a unique picture.” -Waikato Times.
Steven Hood's music can be heard at stevenhoodmusic.com.
