Friday 8 November is the preview of an exhibition laying down the challenge: How should we live in a fractured world? What connects and divides us? Internationally recognised NZ sculptor Graham Bennett explored these concepts during a major residency in Japan this year. An extraordinary body of work evolved: elegant, thoughtful sculpture and painted studies, highlighting our global fragility. Can we hold it together?
The Diversion Gallery is honoured to have the first NZ show of sculpture and studies from the Fracture installations - casting a different shadow from the meanings carried in Japan, embedding the connections Bennett has long made across the Pacific. There’s a homage to Japanese tradition and origami in the process - seemingly strong yet infinitely delicate... like the Earth, in fact…
Bennett is a major New Zealand artist with works in national and international collections. He will offer insights at the Opening - all welcome at 6pm on Friday 8 November, celebrating the work with fine Marlborough Forrest Wines.
The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-4pm or other days on request (contact 0274408121), until 7 December.
